YT recommended: David Bowie – I’m Afraid of Americans (Official Video)

Is the YouTube algorithm trying to tell me and others something?

I don’t listen to David Bowie’s music for no particular reason. So, imagine my surprise when one of his songs was recommended to me by YouTube. I wasn’t going to click until I saw the title of the song. My mouth dropped. Not my boy, David Bowie afraid of us Americans. Like why? So I had to click on the song. I just needed to hear it just once, lol.

So apparently, the song is supposed to be dark satire about: “American corporatization, homogenization, aggressiveness and mass culture.”

I was traveling in Java when [its] first McDonald’s went up: it was like, “for fuck’s sake.”

The video itself shows people using their fingers or hands like guns. While the US does have issues with gun violence, I doubt it’s that bad. In the UK, there is a knife violence issue. Should people in the US be afraid of the UK? Anyways, it’s all dark satire so, should we give it a pass?

What others are saying in the comment section of David Bowie’s video:

So it looks like others are thinking the same: Strange time to be recommending David’s music video. Or maybe YouTube algorithm has an odd sense of humor.
